Pokhara, Most Popular Tourist City In Nepal

Pokhara is second most popular tourist city in Nepal. Located around 200 Km southwest of Kathmandu, Pokhara is directly connected by air and land with all major cities and towns inside Nepal. 

Pokhara is a natural valley full of lakes, green hills, forests & wildlife and Himalayas. There are as many as half a dozen lakes in Pokhara. Phewa Lake, Begnas Lake and Rupa Lake are three of the most popular and highly visited lakes in Pokhara. Boating, swimming, fishing, running and hiking are some of activities undertaken in and around the lakes. 

Pokhara Valley offers spectacular views of the tallest mountains including Mt. Fishtail, Mt. Dhaulagiri and Mt. Annapurna. The sacred mountain of Mt. Fishtail can be seen beautifully reflected on the Phewa Lake. One of the best places to see the mountains is Sarangkot. Located at an altitude of 1700m, Sarangkot is perhaps the tallest vantage point to see the snow capped Himalayas up close. 

You can also find time to trek to World Peace Stupa located on a hill right across Phewa Lake. It is one of the best hiking route that takes about 2 hours to reach the top. The stupa affords a sweeping view of the Pokhara Valley with shining mountains in the back ground. 

Pokhara Valley is often known as the gateway to the famed Annapurna Circuit. In fact thousands of tourists go to Annapurna circuit every year. Popular trekking routes that can be taken up from Pokhara are Dhapmus Trek, Ghandruk Trek and Poonhill Trek. All of these treks are highly recommended if you would like to see the culture and nature of the Himalayas. 

Lately Pokhara has also become the playground for many adventure activities. Paragliding from Sarangkot is one of the most popular. Rafting, Marathon, Bicycling are other sports you can try out. 

Besides these Pokhara  also hosts many museums including International Mountain Museum, Bat caves like Mahendra Cave, Davis Fall, temples and handicraft centers. 

There are star rated hotels in Pokhara for your comfortable stay and you could also take part in vibrant nightlife along the Phewa lakeside. Discotheques, pub, rock music, and local cultural song and dances are regular on the menu of almost all restaurants. Gastronomical choices range from nepali cuisines to continental, Chinese and other Asian delicacies.
