New Route For Climbing Everest

The Nepalese government has decided to open a new climbing route for Everest from this season. The decision has been taken to avoid disasters such as last year’s avalanche in Everest that killed 16 Sherpa climbing guides.

The new South Col route will cross through the center of the Khumbu Icefall instead of following the left side tracks. The decision will put the old route that has been followed by thousands of climbers since the first ascent of Everest in 1953 by Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa out of use.

The new route between Base Camp and Camp I is deemed to be less risky of avalanche falls and snow slides and would be much more safer. Expert climbers from Sherpa Guide Association have already started to create the new track, which will actually extend the Everest climbing duration by two hours.
