Nepal Remains Upbeat About Tourism Business

After the powerful earthquake on 25 April, that caused severe loss of human lives and property, Nepal is gradually returning to a normal state of affairs. People are still reeling from the fear of aftershocks as they return to continue with their work and daily lives.

According to the latest data, the number of human casualty of the earthquake was 7675 with 14,477 injured. Nearly 200,000 houses were destroyed leading to the displacement of 732,409.

The tourism industry, particularly the trekking business was affected badly following the massive earthquake. Many trekkers were left stranded along trekking trails across Nepal. Many tourists from different countries have been found dead while some are missing. Search operation is presently conducted throughout Nepal by national and international rescue missions.

The Home Ministry, Nepal Tourism Board and other private tourism associations has stepped up their coordination in the ensuing days to rescue all trekkers and their staffs who had been stranded in various Himalayan regions to safety. Nepal Tourism Board along with Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal, Hotel Association of Nepal and Nepal Association of Travel and Tour Agents are preparing to put more safety measures in place to ensure safety and wellbeing of tourists.

As Nepal prepares to rebuild and reconstruct from the ashes, tourism industry also gears up to overcome this tragedy. Tourism centers like Thamel, Pokhara, Nagarkot, Chitwan are slowly showing signs of recovery as they prepare to welcome tourists ahead.

Tourism professionals and establishments are upbeat about the upcoming autumn season as they look ahead to welcome tourists to Nepal with new energy and enthusiasm.
