Honey Hunting

Honey Hunting is a popular tourist activity primarily focused around ethnic Gurung community of Nepal. Ghalegaun in Lamjung is one of best places to watch honey hunting.
Honey hunting is a traditional activity whereby local honey hunters climb tall cliffs to take out honey from honeycombs. These honeycombs are made by wild bees which are found in the hilly Himalayan region. The honey hunters use bamboo ropes made of Niyalo or choya to hang in the air.
Aside from Honey Hunting, you can also learn about the culture and lifestyle of Gurung people. Community guest houses run by local Mother’s Group is used for accommodation. In addition you will witness spectacular views of Annapurna and Manaslu Himalayan ranges while trekking.
The time and place for honey hunting is set only after consulting the local astrological calendar. Usually October/November and May/June are the seasons when Honey Hunting takes place.
