Tamanag Heritage Trekking:
Tamang Heritage Trail trekking area is located about 100 kilometers north of Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. Trekking along this unbeaten trail will allow you to experience unique Tamang and Tibetan culture, pristine wildlife and beautiful Himalayan peaks.
Tamang Heritage Trail trek takes you through authentic Tamang settlements, who shares close affinity and similar culture with Tibetans. The people here work as farmers, sheep and yak herders, as well as traders between Tibet and Rasuwa. You will love their skills in making traditional costumes, unique Tamang hats, bamboo baskets and mats.
There are opportunities to explore ancient monasteries, traditional architecture and lifestyles of local people. Further you will enjoy the beautiful landscapes of alpine terrain, flat meadows and rhododendron forests along the way. Langtang National Park which falls on the trail is home to such flagship species as Red Panda, Snow Leopard and Pangolin.
Langtang Lirung (7245m), Dorje Lakpa (6989m), Jugal Himal, Ganesh Himal, Langtang Kerung, Paldor peak, Shringi Himal, Manaslu and Sanjen Himal ranges are clearly visible from the trekking trail. In addition there are over 70 glaciers of varying sizes and high altitude lakes such as Gosainkunda, Bhairavkunda and Dudhkunda among others.
Depending on whether you start from Dhunche or Syabrubesi, the trail passes through Goljung, Gatlang, Thuman, Timure and Briddim. Goljung, Gatlang, Briddim are traditional Tamang villages featuring Tamang monastery, Bon culture and the holy Chodingmo Lake.
The Tamang Heritage Trail trek is graded moderate and is best approached during Autumn (Sep-Nov) and Spring (Mar-May).
