Ganga Jamuna Trek

Ganga Jamuna Trek

Ruby Valley Ganga Jamuna Trek has been named after the famous twin waterfalls of Ganga and Jamuna. The waterfalls are located in the northern part of Dhading district and lies in ganesh himal trekking region

The primary attraction of this trek is a visit to the sacred Ganga –Jamuna waterfalls itself. The waterfall is regarded by both Buddhists and Hindus as a sacred place for devotion. Indeed every year during full moon in the month of November, Buddhist and Hindu pilgrims from all over Nepal gather here to pay homage to the site. Shamans from Gurung community can be seen dancing and playing drums and invoking gods in the process. A holy stone has also been erected nearby the waterfall where pilgrims conduct prayers and offerings.

There is also a spring near the waterfall called ‘Kukur Dhara’ which literally translates into ‘Dog Spring’. Locals believe that taking a dip in this spring rids one of rabies disease.

A day’s walk from Ganga-Jamuna takes you to the famous Tripura Sundari Temple at Salyankot. This is a Hindu temple where Hindu devotees offer special prayer and make animal sacrifices.

Apart from it, the trek offers you a romantic journey into the rural villages of Nepal. Trekkers can appreciate the culture and lifestyle of Nepali people and observe them engaged in agriculture and husbandry.  Newar, Tamang, Gurung, Brahmin and Chhetri are the ethnic peoples you are likely to find along this route.

The Ruby Valley Ganga Jamuna Trek is graded as moderate trek and can be done by all levels of trekkers. Much of trekking path passes through rhododendron and pine forests, villages, hills and green terraced fields. Trekkers will be rewarded with glorious sightings of the Himalaya ranges such as  Annapurna, Ganesh, Langtang, Lamjung, Manaslu, Himalchuli, Shringi, etc.
