Overview

Motorbike tour to Upper Mustang is one of the longest and most exciting riding adventures in Nepal. In this trip you will travel up to Korala in the Nepal-Tibet border explore Lo-Manthang Valley and visit Jomsom and Muktinath.  

Follow the scenic Prithivi Highway all the way to Pokhara, the gateway to the Annapurna region. The next day you will head towards Kagbeni via Jomsom located on the banks of the sacred Kali Gandaki River. At Kagbeni and Jomsom you can take your time to enjoy great views of Dhaulagiri (8167m) and Annapurna I (8091), the seventh and tenth highest mountain as well as the deepest Kali Gandaki gorge in the world.

In Jomsom, you could taste local Thakali cuisine and witness their unique Buddhist culture. Continue your journey further north, this time to Lo-Manthang Valley, passing by picturesque Samar and Geling villages. Spend a day here to explore Lo-Manthang palace, longest mani wall in Tsarang, ancient Ghar Monastery and Namgyal Gumpa. Ride your motorbike further to Korala, which straddles Nepal-Tibet border. On your return trip, stopover at Chumig Gyatsa or Muktinath temple which hosts a life size statue of Guru Padmasambhava, eternal flame and 108 stone spouts.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrival at Kathmandu airport and hotel transfer.

On your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be met and welcomed by our airport representative. You will be greeted traditionally with flower garlands. The representative will then take you to your hotel where you will be served welcome drinks. Afterward, we will go to office for trip briefing. Stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 2 : UNESCO Heritage Sites visit

Today following breakfast, your tour guide will meet you at hotel and take you for city sightseeing. You will visit popular world heritage monuments in Kathmandu including Kathmandu Durbar Square, Boudhanath, Swoyambhunath, and Pashupatinath. You will also visit Kopan Monastery if we get enough time. By late afternoon you will arrive back in your hotel. Stay overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 3 : Ride to Pokhara

After early-morning breakfast, you will start riding from Kathmandu to Pokhara (914m.) which takes about six hours. This riding will take most of your morning time along the highway, leaving much of the afternoon to get a warming glimpse of Pokhara Valley and fall in love with its ethereal beauty.

Pokhara is the tourist's paradise with full of natural as well as cultural heritage sites such as lakes, caves, Buddhist and Hindu temples along with the magnificent views of mountains. You can observe the glistening white peaks of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. Stay overnight at hotel in Pokhara.

Day 4 : Ride to Tatopani

Ride from Pokhara to Tatopani(1189m.) takes about five hours.  Your first part of riding is on the paved road up to Beni. Afterwards your driving follows rough road alongside of the Kaligandaki River. At Tatopani you can enjoy the Natural Hot Spring Bath which is popular as a natural remedy for different diseases. Stay overnight at lodge.

Day 5 : Ride to Kagbeni (2810 m.)

Ride from Tatopani toKagbeni (2810 m.) via Jomsomtakes about six hours. The riding up to Jomsom is on rough road. But after Jomsom, road is mostly flat which makes it very easy going. It is also very picturesque, with views of big peaks all around such as Dhaulagiri, Tukuche and Nilgiri, whilst to the south can be seen the entire Annapurna Massif. Stay overnight at lodge.

Day 6 : Ride to Ghami (3490 m.)

Ride from Kagbeni to Ghami takes about five hours.Your today’s riding passes through beautiful Samar and Geling villages. En route, you will be able to capture fabulous landscapes, crops field and unique village settlements.  Stay overnight at lodge.

Day 7 : Ride to Lo- Manthang via GharGumba

Ride from Ghami to Lo- Manthang via GharGumba takes about 6 hours. First you will ride to Tsarang following one of the longest mani wall. Then, you will go to GharGumba, one of the oldest monasteries in the region which is almost 2000 years old. After spending some time there, your riding will continue towards your ultimate destination, Lo- Manthang. It is an ancient walled city, often known as land of Forbidden Kingdom.

Day 8 : Lo-Manthang explore on foot

Today, you will visit King’s palace, NamgyalGumpa and other local sites. You will get enough time to interact with local people. If you prefer long walking, you can walk to the Fort which is located on the top of Lo-Manthang Valley.

Day 9 : Ride to Korala border

Today, you will ride to Korala, Nepal-Tibet border and return back to Lo- Manthang. On the same day, we can also visit one of the fascinating caves Chosur which has five stories and 85 rooms. Stay overnight at lodge.

Day 10 : Ride from Lo-Manthang to Geling

You will ride back following the same route with superb views of unique landscapes, snow capped mountains and so on. Stay overnight at lodge.

Day 11 : Ride to Muktinath via Kagbeni

Muktinath is one of the ancient Hindu Temples located in Nepal. Both Hindu and Buddhist people have been praying there from thousands of years. So, this temple is a perfect example of religious harmony existing in Nepal. Muktinath is also a meeting point with trekkers who pass Thorong La to complete Annapurna Circuit trail. Stay overnight at lodge.

Day 12 : Ride to Pokhara

Today’s ride from Muktinath to Pokhara passes through Jomsom, Tatopani and Beni. In Beni, you can also visit Nepal’s longest suspension bridge. If you are whisky lover, you can buy local Marpha brandy at Jomsomas souvenir to your favorite people. Stay overnight at hotel in Pokhara.

Day 13 : Ride back to Kathmandu

Ride from Pokhara to Kathmandu takes about seven hours. While driving from Pokhara to Kathmandu, you head up to Damauli, Dumre, Muglin and Kurintar where Nepal's first cable car is operated to reach to Manakamana Temple. Same day, it is possible to do rafting for about 2-3 hours in Trishuli River. Stay overnight at hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 14 : Departure

Transfer to airport for your final departure or join other activities in Nepal.
