Overview

The 15 days Tamang Heritage Trek (Langtang Valley) is one of the longest treks in Langtang region. It presents a wonderful opportunity to visit Tamang and Tibetan villages and Buddhist monasteries, learn about local lifestyle and Buddhist culture, closely experience pristine wilderness and enjoy panorama of Langtang Himalayan ranges along with highest ice glaciers and lakes. 
 
This is one of the newly opened treks which take you from sub temperate climate to alpine terrain. Gatlang, Goljung, Timure, Briddim are some of the most important Tamang-Tibetan villages you will visit. Along the trek capture spectacular panoramic views of Langtang Lirung (7245m), Langtang Kerung, Chumse Danda ridge (5122m), Dorje Lakpa (6989m), Jugal Himal, Ganesh Himal, Paldor peak, Shringi Himal, Manaslu and Sanjen Himal ranges. 
 
Visiting Kyangjin Gompa at the attitude of 3780m and Kyangjin Ri (4350m) provides for a rare up close views of Langtang Lirung as well as Langtang glacier. High altitude lakes such as Chhoingdolmo lake, Bhairavkunda and Dudhkunda are found along the Tamang Heritage trek.
 
Finally on this trek you will also have a chance to visit the Langtang village, which had been devastated by 2015 earthquake and learn how the locals are rebuilding their lives and promoting tourism. 

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 : Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (1467m)

Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi via Trishuli (Nuwakot) which takes about eight hours. You head north out of Kathmandu driving through scenic foothills and ridgeline vistas to Syabru Besi passing through Dhunche.

Day 2 : Trek from Syabrubesi to Gatlang (2238m)

Trek from Syabrubesi to Gatlang via Goljung which takes about six hours. While trekking you pass through Tamang villages with Langtang peaks on the backdrop. The Tamang culture show at Goljung and Gatlang will be a memorable experience. Gatlang is set high on a hillside among terraced fields and is at a short walking distance from Tamang monastery and beautiful Choddingmo Lake.

Day 3 : Trek from Gatlang to Tatopani (2607m)

Trek from Gatlang to Tatopani takes about six hours. On the way you enjoy splendid panorama of Langtang and Ganesh Himal. Tatopani once hosted a natural hot spring which dried up after 2015 earthquake.

Day 4 : Trek from Tatopani to Thuman (2338m) via Nagthali (3165m)

Trek from Tatopani to Thuman via Nagthali takes about five hours. This trail  is impressive because of possible encounter with wild animals such as red panda, monkeys and deer. The panoramic view of Langtang, Kerung, Ganesh Himal, Sanjen ranges can be distinctly experienced from Nagthali.
 
Nagthali is a popular meditation center for local monks and priests. Another cultural village Thuman is popular for its Shamanic performances and add to that beautiful views of Langtang Himalayas that can be seen from every house in Thuman.

Day 5 : Trek from Thuman to Timure (1762m)

Trek from Thuman to Timure takes about five hours. The historical fort of Rasuwagadhi lies along Nepal –China (Tibet) border. Timure falls on ancient trade route between Nepal and Tibet.

Day 6 : Trek from Timure to Briddim (2229m)

Trek from Timure to Briddim takes about six hours. Today the trail is longer and is a bit rugged. Briddim is one of the most beautiful villages located on the bosom of Langtang Himal.

At Briddim you can experience rich Buddhist culture of Tamang and Tibetan. There are around 43 houses with roofs made of distinctive stone slates. You can enjoy homestay with local family.  

Day 7 : Trek from Briddim to Lama Hotel (2470m) takes about six hours.

Trek from Briddim to Lama Hotel takes about six hours. The path is relatively easy with much portion going downhill. Reaching Lama Hotel, you discover that it is located on the banks of the Langtang River and surrounded by lush forests and mountains.

Day 8 : Trek from Lama Hotel to Langtang (3430m) takes about five hours.

Trek from Lama Hotel to Langtang is quite mesmerizing especially because of the beautiful views of the Langtang range. You can also learn about Tibetan culture and lifestyle.

Day 9 : Trek from Langtang to Kyangjin (3870m) takes about three hours.

This day you can see the glaciated valley of Kyangjin on the lap of Langtang Lirung enclosed by snowy mountains.

Day 10 : Rest day at Kyangjin Gompa with local excursion

Rest day at Kyangjin Gompa and excursion in and around the area. You can visit the monastery and the cheese factory, walk up the moraine to see the spectacular ice faces and tumbling glaciers of Langtang Lirung. You will also ascend Kyangjin Ri (4350m), directly behind the village, for a breath-taking panorama of the Langtang peaks.

Day 11 : Trek from Kyangjin to Lama Hotel (2470m) takes about six hours.

From Kyangjin you retrace your route, following the Langtang Khola to Langtang village and on to Ghora Tabela. After lunch you continue the steep descent to Lama Hotel.

Day 12 : Trek from Lama Hotel to Thulo Syabru (2130m) takes about six and half hours.

You move up a steep path through the forest. An undulating path brings you to this fascinating village of Thulo Syabru where each house is set above its neighbor, in a long line up the very crest of the ridge.

Day 13 : Trek from Thulo Syabru to Sing Gompa (3330m) takes about five hours.

Leaving Thulo Syabru you climb a steep path through forests of oak, fir and rhododendron to the top of a ridge. From here it is only a short descent to Sing Gompa.

Day 14 : Trek from Sing Gompa to Dhunche (2030 m) takes about four hours.

You trek downhill all the way to Ghatte Khola (stream) passing a section of forest along with a small village Dimsa. You then trek over a level path along the Ghatte Khola (stream) till Dhunche.

Day 15 : Drive from Dhunche to Kathmandu along Pasang Lhamu Highway enjoing scenic foothills and ridgeline vistas.
