Highlights

Overview

The 7246m tall Putha Himchuli is a popular climbing peak in Nepal. It is located in the western region of Nepal and is part of Dhaulagiri Range. Indeed it is also known as Dhaulagiri VII.

Explorer and climber Jimmy Roberts along with Ang Nyima Sherpa were the first to summit Putha Himchuli. Putha Himchuli Peak is technically challenging mountain featuring a lot of ridges and seracs. Although southern slope is a classic route to follow, climbers nowadays also opt to go via north-eastern slope.

The earlier route was opened by the Japanese in the seventies. The base camp is set up at German Base Camp at an altitude of 4,575m followed by three camps set up at Camp I (5337m), Camp II (5940m) and Camp III (6475m).  It takes at least 17 days to reach to the top and return to base camp. You will be amazed by the spectacular views of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna and Ganesh Himal ranges visible from the mountain top.

Part of the Putha himchuli expedition includes a weeklong trek from Dunai in Dolpa district through controlled Upper Dolpo region. Dolpo is a trans Himalayan region characterized by wild barren landscape, Tibetan people and their Buddhist culture, colorful monasteries, caves and deep canyons.

Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) offers climbing permits for Putha peak. Depending on your preference, Nepal Environmental Treks & Expedition can arrange either full board or base camp service. Our team consists of highly experienced Sherpa climbers, high altitude porters and cooks who provide you with hygienic and delicious food. Climbing is open during Autumn and Spring seasons.
