Overview

Manang Trek is most suitable for those who are interested in experiencing the Himalayas without going over to high pass and higher altitude. Manang Trek covers half of the Annapurna Circuit and provides awesome views of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Lamjung, Tilicho, Pisang among other peaks.
 
The trail is dotted with terraced fields, beautiful villages, waterfalls, river and high rocky cliffs. You will also be able to observe ancient monasteries, mani walls and natural lakes. Higher up in the Manang Valley, Tibetan culture and customs of local Manangi people is an important attraction.
 
The trail lies within the famous Annapurna Conservation Area which is full of incredible Himalayan wildlife and biodiversity. 

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 : Drive from Kathmandu to Besisahar (823m) takes about six hours.

After early morning breakfast, our guide will pick you up from the hotel and take you to the bus station.

Drive from Kathmandu to Besisahar (823m) takes about six hours. You drive along the Kathmandu-Pokhara Highway to Dumre and then follow the narrow and paved road by the Marshyangdi River to Beshisahar, the district headquarters of Lamjung district. All the local government offices are situated here. From here, you can see some of mountain peaks, natural sceneries surrounding the valley and the daily activities of local people.

Day 2 : Trek from Beshisahar to Bahundanda (1305m.) takes about six hours.

Trek from Beshisahar to Bahundanda (1305m.) takes about six hours. The first part of the trail passes along the bank of the Marshyangdi River. You can enjoy the sceneries and the local culture of Gurung community. After lunch the trail goes steeply upwards to Bahundanda for about 2 hours. At this point, you can see the area surrounded by eye-catching scenarios with snow -capped mountains.

Day 3 : Trek from Bahundanda to Chamje (1410m.) takes about six hours.

A steep trail descends for around half an hour and then follows flat path through rice terraces before crossing a stream at the bottom of a small waterfall. It further climbs to the village of Lali Gaon looking out over the steep V-shape Marshyangdi valley and winding down to Syange (1100m) where there is a beautiful waterfall. The trail then climbs steeply cutting into the sheer cliff-face some 200-300m above the riverbed. Eventually you descend to the stone village of Jagat (1330m.) situated on a shelf overlooking Marshyangdi valley.

Day 4 : Trek from Chamje (1410m.) to Dharapani (1960m.) takes about six hours.

Trek from Chamje (1410m.) to Dharapani (1960m.) takes about six hours. The first part of the trail descends to the river and after crossing a suspension bridge, you begin a climb to Sattale (1550m). Climbing the zigzag path to the top of the hill, we descend to a grassy river bank leads to Tal (1700m)  with its hotels and teahouses. Here you can enjoy the exhilarating waterfalls. Beyond Tal, the valley narrows and the path becomes high and winding until the small village of Karte (1900m). You cross a suspension bridge and climb to the stone Mani entrance to Dharapani (1960m).

Day 5 : Trek from Dharapani to Chame (2675m.) takes about five and half hours.

Trek from Dharapani to Chame (2675m.) takes about five and half hours. You climb through forests of pine and oak, passing through the village of Danaque (2210m.). Ahead lay a small wooden bridge that leads upward to Timang, at the bottom of Lamjung Himal. The trail goes across until you reach Chame where there are government offices, shops and hotels. Chame is the administrative headquarters for the Manang district.

Day 6 : Trek from Chame to Pisang (3100m.) takes about five hours.

Trek from Chame to Pisang (3100m.) takes about five hours. With Lamjung Himal (6893m) sparkling in the morning sun, you set off for Pisang through a path enters a fir and pine forest,. Once you overcome rocky cliff, the trail becomes extremely steep-sided until Bhratang (2950m.). From here onwards you walk through a pine forest for a while before opening up to a wonderful vista of Annapurna II as well as Pisang Peak (6091m.) to the north-east. Continuing on, you pass by a long Mani wall and descend through a bridge to the lower village of Pisang.

Day 7 : Trek from Pisang to Manang (3440m.) takes about five and half hours.

Trek from Pisang to Manang (3440m.) takes about five and half hours. Beyond Pisang, the trail climbs a steep ridge that affords good views of the Manang valley and Tilicho peak (7145m.). Descending past Manang's airstrip at Hungde (3320m.), you come to a level area from where the north-east face of Annapurna III rises majestically. From the wide plains of the Sabje Khola Valley, Annapurna IV (7525m.) also becomes visible. Just beyond this point you cross a wooden bridge over Marshyangdi Khola and make way to the tiny village of Mungji. Follow a short steep climb from here to reach Manang.

Day 8 : Trek from Manang to Pisang (3100m.) takes about 6 hours.

The trail from Manang to Pisang (3100m.) following the upper route goes through deep valleys ensconsed by mountains all around.  Once you leave Manang, the trail drops down to the tranquil Chindi Lake. High rocky cliffs festooned with pine trees and sparse settlements here and there provide you with perfect setting. Further ahead you will walk pass the villages of Ngawal and Ghyaru providing an awesome views of Pisang Peak, Tilicho, Gangapurna and Annapurna II and III. Another 2 hours walk will reach you to Upper Pisang.

Day 9 : Trek from Pisang to Dharapani (1960m.) takes about 7 hours.

Today you will set off for Dharapani by making a descent to around 2500m. The trail initially offers beautiful views of Annapurna and Manaslu ranges passing through the village of Chame. There is a huge waterfall near Chame. Further ahead the trail descends down to the Bhotia villages of Dhayaku and Bagarchap, the last stop before reaching Dharapani.

Day 10 : Trek from Dharapani to Jagat (1800m) takes about six hours.

Trek from Dharapani to Jagat (1800m) takes about six hours. You trek all the way over a descended path along the bank of Dudh Khola (river) and Marshyangdi River. On the way, you walk through pleasant villages such as Taal is an attractive village with a pretty waterfall and you can enjoy the sight of lush green hills. Eventually, you come across Jagat is a stone village situated on a shelf, that juts into the precipitous Marshyangdi valley.

Day 11 : Drive from Jagat to Kathmandu takes about eight hours.

Drive from Jagat to Kathmandu takes about eight hours. It is a picturesque drive on the way back to Kathmandu along the banks of the Marshyangdi and Trishuli rivers with splendid views of green hills, mountains, farming terraces and colorful villages on both sides of road.
