Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a two day official visit to Nepal on 3-4 August. The visit has been lauded as highly successful in reinvigorating India-Nepal relations on a political and diplomatic level.

Delivering an impassioned speech in Nepal’s Parliament on the first day, Indian PM Modi praised Nepal’s beauty and its potential to develop into an economically prosperous country, saying that India is ready to help its neighbor Nepal to become an economically advanced nation. He has put particular emphasis on promoting Nepal as world’s leading adventure tourism destination as well as creating organic farming and herbal industries. He coined the concept of ‘HIT’-Highways, Information ways and Transmission ways to be materialized between two countries. He further stressed on the need to develop and share the human resources, hydropower, and space technology between India and Nepal.

Calling Nepal the birthplace of Buddha, much to the overwhelming applause of lawmakers, the Indian PM has wished for timely drafting and promulgation of constitution by Nepal Government and promotion of peace and stability.

On the second day, Modi held extensive dialogues with Nepalese President and Prime Minister, political leaders and Nepali business delegation. Bilateral agreements have been signed between India and Nepal in the areas of hydropower and health. As part of his visit, PM Modi performed elaborate Puja and offered his prayers at the temple of Pashupatinath in Kathmandu.
