Overview

Nepal wildlife and culture tour package is designed to give you the best of natural and cultural attractions of Nepal. This program encompases visit three world heritage sites namely, Kathmandu Valley, Chitwan National Park and Lumbini.
 
You will start the tour from Kathmandu Valley, a world heritage site, by sightseeing around the medieval cities of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Patan. These cities are open air museum consisting of centuries old palaces, courtyards, statues that are crown of Nepali artistic excellence. You will also visit buddhist Sowaymbhu and Boudha stupas and Hindu Pashpatinath temple. 
 
You will next visit Chitwan National Park, another world heritage site and Nepal’s oldest national park. Here you will enjoy full day jungle activities like bird watching, nature walk, visiting gharial breeding center and watching Tharu cultural dances. 
 
From Chitwan you will head to Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, to see archaeological remains such as Ashoka Pillar, Mayadevi pond, nativity stone along with crane sanctuary, international monasteries and peace flame. 
 
You will finally wrap up the trip by a drive to Pokhara to witness spectacular panorama of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Macchapuchre peaks and explore bat caves, Davis Falls, world peace stupa and Phewa and Begnas lakes. 

Trip Itinerary

On your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be met and welcomed by our airport representative. The representative will take you to your hotel where you will be served welcome drinks. In the afternoon, you can take a stroll around Thamel. Thamel is a major tourist hub where you can enjoy shopping and visit restaurants for a variety of cuisines.

After breakfast our tour guide will take you for sightseeing in and around Kathmandu city. The places to visit this day are Kathmandu Durbar Square, Pashupatinath, Bouddhanath, Swoyambhunath, Kopan Monastery and Seto Machendranath Temple.

Brief description of the places:

Kathmandu Durbar Square

Kathmandu Durbar Square is one of the most popular tourist destinations enlisted as a World Heritage Site. Clustered around the central Durbar Square is the old Royal Palace (Hanuman Dhoka), many interesting temples, the Kumari Chowk or Kumari Bahal (House of the Living Goddess) and the Kasthamandap (House of Wood) from which Kathmandu derived its present name. An exquisite exploration in the Durbar Square reveals the ancient art and architecture of Nepal.

Pashupatinath Temple

Situated 5 kilometers east of Kathmandu City center, Pashupatinath temple is one of the holiest temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. Situated amidst a lush green natural setting on the bank of the sacred Bagmati River, the temple built in pagoda style has jilted roof and richly carved silver doors. Visitors are permitted to view the temple from the east bank of Bagmati River, as entrance into the temple is strictly forbidden to all non-Hindus. Pashupatinath is the centre of annual pilgrimage on the day of Shivaratri which falls in the month of February/March. 

Boudhanath Stupa

This Stupa, situated 8 kilometers east of Kathmandu city, is one of the biggest Stupas in the world. It stands with four pairs of eyes in the four cardinal direction keeping watch for righteous behavior and human prosperity. This Buddhist Stupa was built by King Man Deva at the advice of the Goddess Mani Joiner. It is built on an octagonal base inset with prayer wheels. The shrine is encircled by houses of Lamas or Buddhist priest.

Swoyambhunath Stupa

Swoyambhunath is located approximately 4 kilometers west of Kathmandu city and is said to be 2000 years old. The Stupa which forms the main structure is composed of a solid hemisphere of brick and earth supporting a lofty conical spire capped by a pinnacle of copper gilt. Painted on the four sided base of the spire are the all seeing eyes of Lord Buddha. This hill is a mosaic of small Chaityas and Pagoda temples.

Kopan Monastery

Founded by Lama Zopa Rinpoche in 1971, Kopan Monastery is part of Gelug tradition of Tibetan Mahayana Buddhism. The monastery is situated north of Bouddhanath on a hill overlooking the Kathmandu Valley. About 300 monks including Lamas, Rinpoches and teachers live here to study and disseminate the teaching of Shakyamuni Buddha as well as Lama Tsong Khapa, founder of Gelug lineage. The monastery also has a separate nunnery called Khachoe Chakyil Ling, which houses over 300 nuns, most of whom are refugees. The Monastery offers perfect spot for meditation, retreats, course programs on Buddhist studies, daily Dharma talk as well as volunteering. 

Seto Machendranath Temple

Located in Ason, Kathmandu, Seto Machendranath Temple is a temple dedicated to the deity Avalokiteshvara, also known as Karunmaya among Newari communities. The temple was erected in the 10th century by King Yaksha Malla upon the advice of Arya Avalokiteshvara. Every year during the month of March/April, a chariot of Seto Machendranath is taken on a procession along the streets of Kathmandu. The three day long festival is celebrated by the members of Newar community

Patan Durbar Square

Patan Durbar Square, like its counterpart in Kathmandu, is an enchanting mélange of palace buildings, artistic courtyards and graceful pagoda temples. Listed as a World Heritage Site, the former royal palace complex is the center of Patan’s religious and social life, and houses a museum containing an array of bronze statues and religious objects. One remarkable monument here is a 17th-century temple dedicated to the Hindu god Krishna, built entirely of stone.

Bhaktapur

Located about 14 km East of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur (1,401m) covers an area of four square miles. Bhaktapur which means the city of devotees still retains a medieval charm. visitors to this ancient town are treated to myriad wonders of cultural and artistic achievements from the Malla period. Aside from pottery and weaving as its traditional industries, Bhaktapur is also famous for woodcarving and traditional cap called ‘Bhadgaule Topi’. The places of interest include Bhaktapur Darbar Square, the National Art Gallery, Nyatapola Temple, Bhairavnath Temple, Dattatreya Temple and Dattatreya Square.

Bhaktapur Durbar Square 

Bhaktapur Durbar Square was listed in the UNESCO world Heritage Monument List in 1979. The main square of the city contains innumerable temples and other architectural wonders such as lion gate, the golden gate, the statue of King Bhupatindra Malla, Dattatraya Temple etc. A magnificent statue of King Bhupatindra Malla in the act of worship is placed on a column facing the palace. 

Palace of 55 Windows was built by King Yaksha Malla in 1427 A.D. and remodeled by King Bhupatindra Malla in the 17th century, the balcony and the windows are intricately carved is a masterpiece of wood carving.

Nyatapola Temple is a five storied Pagoda Style temple built by King Bhupatindra Malla in 1708 A.D. It is well known for its massive structure and subtle workmanship and is the tallest pagoda structure in the Kathmandu.

After early morning breakfast, drive from Kathmandu to Chitwan. The drive will take about five hours through winding highways and rivers. Check in at Chitwan Hotel and have lunch. Afternoon you will enjoy some jungle activities.

During your stay in Chitwan National Park you will enjoy the following activities:

Elephant back safari: On elephant back you can view the wild life of the area in their natural habitat. 

Bird Watching: For the bird watchers, it is Paradise Island with over 450 species of exotic birds of domestic as well as migratory birds. Many are threatened, e.g. the Great pied hornbill, Bengal Florican, Peregrine falcon, lesser adjutant storks, etc. A bird watching trip will be a memorable experience. 

Nature Walk: Our experienced naturalists will accompany you to the more specialized habitats. This is the ideal opportunity to explore and experience at closer quarters and beauty of the flora and fauna. The authority of the naturalist must be closely observed to obviate any risks from wildlife attacks.

Elephant Breeding Centre: This is the first Elephant breeding centre in Asia. You can see baby elephants socializing with their parents and other babies. This centre is government owned and its purpose is to raise the young elephants, and to train them to convey tourist around the region.

Village tour: Excursion in Tharu village will grant you an exhilarating experience. Tharus are the indigenous inhabitant of the Terai. We offer guided cultural tours to meet the people and experience their traditional self-sufficient way of life. 

Cultural Program: In the evening you will get an opportunity to be a part of Tharu folk dance. The drummers and symbolic stick dancers perform traditional movements and invite guests to join them in this rhythmic display. Such cultural shows performed by Tharus will be an unforgettable experience. The Tharus in traditional colorful costumes are sure to captivate you.

Elephant Bathing: Your guide will take you to the specific place where you can observe elephant bathing.

Crocodile Walk: One more option is to go for crocodile walk. It goes through grassland and forest along the bank of Rapti / Narayani River. 

Canoe Trip: You can enjoy canoe trip on either The Rapti River or The Budhi Rapti River which borders the National Park. You can see two types of crocodiles, the Gharial and Mugger basking on the river bank.

After early breakfast, you can go on a morning nature walk or any short activity led by a natural guide. Afterwards you will drive to Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha.

You will visit the following important sites in Lumbini: 

Sacred Garden: The Sacred Garden was where Buddha was born in 623 BC. The garden is marked by a marker stone, the exact spot where Buddha descended at birth.  

 Ashoka Pillar: This stone pillar was erected by Emperor Ashoka to marked the birth spot of Buddha, almost 800 years after Buddha was born. The pillar carries inscription in pali script.

Puskarni or Mayadevi Pond: Puskarni Pond sits right in front of Mayadevi Temple. The pond is considered to be sacred since it was here Queen Mayadevi took a bath before giving birth to Buddha.

Lumbini Museum and Lumbini Research Center: These two are located within a few meters of each other. The museum has a substantial collection of Buddhist manuscripts, sculptures and coins dating back to 4th century. The Research Center is currently being developed as a knowledge repository for the benefit of scholars, researchers, students, pilgrims as well as travelers. There are over 12,000 books on religion, philosophy, art and architecture preserved in the center.

Tilaurakot, Kudan, Gothihawa, Niglihawa, Devdaha, Sagarhawa are other important places around Lumbini.

Take early morning breakfast and then drive to Pokhara. Pokhara is tourist's paradise with full of natural as well as cultural heritage sites, such as spectacular Himalayan peaks, lakes, caves, temples of Buddhist and Hindus along with nightlife. You can spend time boating or just relaxing by Phewa Tal (lake), view snowcapped peaks of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges and go to restaurants or pubs to enjoy a pleasant evening.

Early morning you will take a short drive to Sarangkot (1600m) for sunrise and mountain views. Sarangkot is not only a popular spot for paragliding, but also a vantage point to observe beautiful Himalayan peaks of Annapurna and Machhapuchre and the sprawling landscape of Pokhara Valley. In the afternoon you will go sightseeing to Mahendra Cave, Davi's Fall, Barahi Mandir, Chamera (Bat) Cave and enjoy boating on Phewa Lake.

Today you will continue sightseeing in and around Pokhara. You will hike up to World Peace Pagoda, visit International Mountain Museum,  Bindhabasini Temple, Mahadev Cave, Tibetan Refugee camp and Begnas Lake.

Take an early morning drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu that takes about seven hours. The bending highways allow you to experience scenic green hills, rivers, villages as you pass up Damauli, Dumre, Muglin and Kurintar. Kurintar is the starting point of Nepal's first Cable car to Manakamana Temple. From Naubishe you climb up to Thankot, the gateway to capital city, Kathmandu.
