Mount Kusum Kanguru Peak

Mount Kusum Kanguru Peak

Mount Kanguru (formally known as Kusum Kanguru Peak) is a triple-summited mountain in the Khumbu Region of the Himalayas. Its name, Kusum Kanguru, means "Three Snow-White Gods" in the Sherpa language, which refers to the triple summit of the mountain.
The main north-south ridge of Kusum Kanguru forms the border between the Dudh Kosi to the west and the Hinku Valley to the east. The mountain is the main source of the Kusum Khola (or Thado Koshi Khola) which flows westward to merge into the Dudh Kosi at the village of Thado Koshi. Kusum Kanguru is one of the first high snowy mountains that is seen when trekking from Jiri to Mount Everest base camp.
With an altitude of 6,367 meters the mountain is classified as a trekking peak, but it is considered one of the most difficult to climb. Out of 22 attempts between 1978 and 1998, nine successful expeditions have been reported.
In the subsequent years, new routes have been opened, all of them technically very challenging.
1988 British Expedition led by Nick Mason conquered the previously unclimbed East Face. Expedition doctor was Rob Howarth who later worked in support of Everest Mountain Marathons. Expedition was filmed by Warwick Partington, former ITV & Channel 4 TV director before he later worked on Sky News.
The Kusum Kanguru Peak climbing is suggested only for participants who have enough alpine mountaineering experience. Kusum Kanguru, an impressive peak of rock and ice possess a great challenge to the mountaineers. It is considered the most difficult peak for climbing among the trekking peaks in Nepal.
For the south east face route, the approach is made from Hinku valley side and for the north face route we follow the trekking trail of Everest base camp up to Monjo and move ahead towards the east south for two days to reach the base camp. From base camp climb sheer lawn and trees and lastly a ramp chief to the ridge proper.
