Overview

Helambu trek is one of those shortest treks and one that is nearest to Kathmandu Valley. The trek offers a chance to approach Nepal’s traditional culture, pristine natural biodiversity and snow-capped mountains.

The Helambu trek is situated to the north of Kathmandu. The trail passes through green hills, ridges, streams and forests of oak, rhododendrons etc. Indeed the trail runs through Shivapuri National Park as well as Langtang National Park, home to red panda, barking deer, wild boar, clouded leopard, Eurasian eagle owl, white-gorgeted flycatcher, golden throated barbet etc.

The area is primarily inhabited by the Sherpas and Tamang communities who will heartily welcome trekkers. You can enjoy the simple but serene lifestyle of locals of the Helambu region and visit ancient Buddhist monasteries. Kutumsang, Melamchi Gaon, Tarke Ghyang and Shermathang are major hamlets in this trekking.

The trekking starts from Sundarijal and ends at Melamchi Pul Bazaar. One can opt to continue trekking to Langtang from Tharepati via Gosainkunda.
