Highlights

Overview

Panchase Trek is one of the shortest treks you can do around Pokhara Valley. It is a quick trek that offers the finest of Himalayan trekking: beautiful views of tallest mountains, real culture and scenic nature.

The trekking path traverses through green rolling hills, quiet villages and gorgeous terraced fields. Walking in the forests under the shade of juniper, oak and rhododendron trees and sighting of wild animals will give you a mesmerizing experience. Gurungs, who are known world over for their Gurkha image, are the main inhabitants of this region.

The best part of this trek is a hike to Panchase Bhanjyang located at an altitude of 2050m. From here you can see crystal clear views of Macchapuchare, Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Lamjung and Manaslu among others.

This is purely a camping trek and can be done throughout the year. However, Spring (March-May) and Autumn (Sep-Nov) are regarded as the best times to do Panchase Trek.

Trip Itinerary

This drive will take most of the morning, leaving much of the afternoon to fall in love with its beauty.

Pokhara is tourist's paradise with full of natural as well as cultural heritage sites such as lakes, caves, temples of Buddhist and Hindus along with mountains. You can observe views to the north across the hills and Phewa Tal (lake) to the white peaks of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. Stay overnight at hotel in Pokhara.

Early morning hike up to Poon Hill (3232 m.) takes about one hour. Poon Hill is a popular viewpoint to see sunrise and majestic views of Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167m.), Tukuche Peak (6920m.), Nilgiri (6940m.), Varaha Shikhar (7847m.), Mt. Annapurna I (8091m.), Annapurna South (7219m.), Annapurna III (7855m.), Machhapuchhare (6993m.), Annapurna IV (7525m.), Annapurna II (7937m.), and Lamjung Himal (6931m.) and other numerous snowcapped mountain peaks.

After breakfast, you follow a gradually descending path through the forests of rhododendron and oak to Banthanti which is a small village where you can pause for hot and cold drinks. The trail then descends to Ulleri (1960m.), a big Gurung village from where you can enjoy views of Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre and Hiunchuli. From here the trail to Tirkhedhunga is a steep descent passing terraces and some villages. After a short walk of 15 minutes from Tirkhedhunga, you reach Hille. It is also a small Gurung village with surrounding green hills. Most of the inhabitants of this village are occupied in agriculture.

which takes about one and half hours. This day’s trek gradually descends following Bhurung Khola (Bhurung Stream) all the way to Birethanti before you cross the Modi Khola over the suspension bridge. You are amazed to pass small villages and see the magnificent waterfalls as well as walking through the sparse forests.

Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu takes about seven hours. While driving from Pokhara to Kathmandu, you head up to Damauli,, Dumre, Muglin and Kurintar where Nepal's first Cable car is operated to reach to Manakamana Temple. En route, you can enjoy mountain views, green sceneries, rice terrace fields, vegetable fields and people being engaged in their daily life activities.
