In celebration of World Tourism Day 2018, Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN) organized a one-day hiking program from Kakani to Gurje Bhanjyang via Suire Chaur on 25 September 2018. The theme for this year’s World Tourism Day was “Tourism and the Digital Transformation”. The hiking focused on both WTD theme and the promotion of Kakani-Gurje Bhanjyang trekking route as well as bringing together tourism entrepreneurs in one place.
The hiking also signalled the start of Visit Nepal Year 2020 campaign.
The event saw overwhelming participation from tourism entrepreneurs, diplomats, celebrities, journalists and social campaigners. The Chief Guest of the program was Tourism Minister Rabindra Adhikari. Other notable participants include State Tourism Minister Dhan Bahadur Budha, Former Minister Hit Bahadur Tamang, former state minister Radhika Tamang, Tourism Secretary Krishna Prasad Devkota, NTB CEO Deepak Joshi and presidents of various tourism associations.
The event was coordinated in the leadership of Mr. Nava Raj Dahal, incumbent President of TAAN. Mr. Dahal is also Owner/Managing Director of Nepal Environmental Treks & Expedition. The event started with a 1.30 hr drive from Kathmandu to Kakani followed by hiking all the way up to Gurje Bhanjyang where local representatives welcomed them with much fanfare and cultural program. After the program, the group returned to Kathmandu on a half hour drive.
