An interaction program between Honorary Consuls of various countries in Nepal and trekking/tourism entrepreneurs was organized by Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) and Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) on 2 September 2018 at Radisson Hotel.
The program was chaired by Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Mr. Rabindra Kumar Adhikari and participated by foreign secretary, tourism secretary, high level government officials, ambassadors, honorary consuls, presidents and ex-presidents of various tourism associations, tourism and trekking entrepreneurs.
The subject of the interaction focused on the role honorary consuls can play to promote tourism and foreign direct investment in Nepal from their respective countries by using their diplomatic affiliations. The program was also held in support of the recently declared Visit Nepal 2020 campaign that seeks to attract 2 million tourists to Nepal by 2020 thereby creating 1 million jobs.
Delivering his welcome speech President of Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal as well as Honorary Consul of the Republic of Estonia and Managing Director/Owner of Nepal Environmental Treks & Expedition, Mr. Nava Raj Dahal called on all honorary consuls to initiate a joint strategy for the promotion Nepalese tourism. “I hope this program will help identify the role of Honorary Consuls in the promotion and development of Nepalese Tourism, especially for the success of Visit Nepal 2020. The diplomats can also play an integral role in attracting foreign direct Investment in tourism sector from their respective countries.”
Speaking on the occasion Hon’ble Tourism Minister Rabindra Adhikari and Tourism Secretary Krishna Prasad Devkota explored the potential of Honorary Consuls to promote Nepalese tourism. Similarly CEO of Nepal Tourism Board Deepak Raj Joshi, Founder President of TAAN and Honorary Consul of Spain Ambika Shrestha and Dean of Honorary Consuls Corp of Nepal (HCC-N) Ang Tshering Sherpa emphasized the need for Honorary Consuls to join hands with tourism entrepreneurs to conduct effective international marketing and promotion of tourism.
There are over 45 honorary consuls in Nepal representing Europe (26 countries), North America (1), South America (4), Oceania (5), South Asia (1), East Asia (3), Africa (3) and Middle East (3). Since its inception Honorary Consular Corps, Nepal (HCC-N) has been uniting and promoting role and responsibility of Honorary Consuls in Nepal.
