Free Mobile SIM cards for tourists in Nepal

Nepal Telecom, a government owned company and Nepal Tourism Board has agreed to offer free mobile SIM card to foreign tourists entering the country via Tribhuvan International Airport.

The distribution of free SIM card started on 1 March, 2016 and SIM itself comes with a balance of Rs 50. According to Nepal Tourism Board (NTB),the facility would help to promote Nepal as a safe destination with good communication right from the airport.

Along with SIM Card, the tourists will also be provided with "I am in Nepal Now" selfie card that will contain important contact numbers useful for tourists while their stay in Nepal.

The SIM card is believed to play an instrumental role in ensuring safety of trekkers and hikers in Nepal by tracking the SIM card code number. Free SIM card is expected to benefit about 30,000 independent trekkers who go to the remote areas every year.
