Mera Peak Climbing

Mera Peak Climbing

This peak climbing trip covers the Mera Peak and Baruntse Expedition in Everest region. Both climbing peaks are famous for trekking peak climbing in Nepal among the adventure lovers.

Mera and Barutnse Peaks are two highly prized trekking and expedition peaks located in Everest region of Nepal. Baruntse is 7,129m in altitude and Mera Peak stands at 6476m. These peaks can be climbed either individually or together depending upon the choice of mountaineers.

Climbers often tackle the two one after another. Climbing Mera peak is often a warm up and acclimatizing opportunity to go on to conquer Baruntse Peak. Mera and Baruntse Peak Climbing is undoubtedly one of the longest journeys- around 35 to 40 days- in the Himalayas that includes both climbing and trekking.

These two peaks rise from the glacial bed of three famous glaciers, namely Imja, Barun and Hunku. Baruntse in particular is tucked between Lhotse (8,516m) andMakalu (8,463m),. There are two routes to climbing Baruntse Peak- South East Route (original) and South ridge route. South East Ridge route approach is comparatively difficult to South Ridge since it involves climbing an almost vertical ice cliff on your last stretch to the summit.

The high camp of Mera peak is at 5600m while the Baruntse Base Camp is set up at 5300m. You can climb the Mera peak and be back at Base Camp in one day. But it takes a total of 10 days to reach the top of Baruntse Peak and then return to its base camp. Baruntse and Mera peak offers spectacular views of Mt. Everest (8,848m), Cho-Oyu (8,210m), Lhotse (8,516m), Makalu (8,463m), Kangchenjunga (8,586m), Nuptse (7,855m) and Chamlang (7,319m).

The expedition starts with a scenic adventurous flight to Lukla, the starting point for Everest Trek. You will spend at least five days trekking along the most scenic Everest region before you reach the base camp of Mera Peak. During the trekking you will be able to experience Sherpa culture, visit Namche and Tenboche Monastery, walk through rhododendron and pine forests, and capture spectacular mountain views of Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse etc.

Special expedition permits are required for mountaineers before the expedition. Nepal Environmental Treks and Expedition takes care of all the expedition permits as well as arranges necessary logistics. We offer you highly experienced Sherpa climbers, cooks and high altitude porters to make this expedition a success.
