First settlers are said to began arriving in the valley after the water of the lake was drained by a bodhisattva named Manjushree.
Throughout ancient, medieval and modern ages, many rulers have come and gone leaving their marks in history. As a living heritage, numerous palaces and courtyards, temples, scriptures, sculptures, museums are scattered around the valley. Today all these monuments have become a wonder of amusement and magnificence of attractions for tourists all around the world. These ancient, medieval and modern monuments are well preserved and are a pride of Nepali people.
