Rara Lake

Dolpo-Rara-Simikot is one of the most remote and yet most beautiful trekking route in Dolpo Trekking region of Nepal. The route still remains untouched and unexplored by majority of trekkers.

Dolpo is the biggest district in Nepal lying in Trans Himalayan region. It is bordered on the north by Tibet. It is home to Bhotia people who follow Bon religion, one of the ancient religions that predates Buddhism. Part of the Shey Phoksundo National Park also falls in Dolpo district. Located at an altitude of 3,612m, the park hosts Phoksundo Lake (3660m), which has been declared a protected wetland Ramsar site. The region is inhabited by such wild flora and fauna as Himalayan birch, rhododendron, silver fir and Himalayan black bear, snow leopard, grey wolf, yellow-throated marten etc.

In this trek you will also get the opportunity to observe local art and architecture and Gompas in Upper Dolpo, terraced fields of mustard and barley and snowcapped Himalayan peaks such as Dhaulagiri (8172m), Kanjiroba (6883m) among others. Further up we will visit the majestic Rara region. The region is home to Rara National Park which is famous for Rara Lake, the biggest and deepest fresh water lake in the Nepal Himalayas. Located at an altitude of almost 3000m, the lake is also a Ramsar site, an ecological heaven for over 1074 flora species, 51 species of mammals and 214 species of birds.

We will trek up to Simikot, the border point between Nepal and Tibet (China), and return the same route. You will have to fly or drive from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj and then take a flight to reach Simikot. Flights and land transportation area available on the route.

The best season to do Dolpo-Rara-Simikot Trek is either from April to May or September to October. Nepal Environmental Treks has organized Dolpo-Rara-Simikot Trek many times previously. We have a team of professional and friendly Sherpas, guides and porters who would guide you every step of the way to make your journey memorable.
